I laughed so hard watching this video as we re-wrote the lyrics to California Dreamin’ for this email. For the full, groovy 60’s experience listen to the Mamas and the Papas as you sing along to our new verse.

All the gifts aren’t in (all the gifts aren’t in)
But I’m here to say (but I’m here to say)
I go check the mail (I go check the mail)
At least once a day (at least once a day)
Lots of generous checks (lots of generous checks)
We’re 2/3’s of the way!!
California Dreamin’
On such a winter’s day!

Thank you so much for the generous response! However, the last part of the race is always the hardest.  If you haven’t invested in Swifty’s California Dream to bring a tissue navigator to Stanford, please consider doing so today!

Michael’s Master Plan has grown to now envision 4-5 Regional Centers of Excellence that will act as autopsy sites to collect tissue and generate cell lines of pediatric brain cancers that can be shared with researchers around the world. CHOP, Lurie and Stanford are committed … Children’s National will come on board in early 2019 and we have begun discussion with UT Southwestern in Texas.

I know it’s tough to read about the need for children’s autopsy tissue, but it’s the space Swifty lives in.

I will be deep in that space this weekend as I head to Swifty’s Family Forum meeting in Philly. Swifty is gathering families from around the country who either donated or were unable to donate their child’s brain tissue at the time of death. These families are motivated to get involved in the mission to get more autopsy tissue in the hands of researchers. In my next email I’ll tell you all about it.

Patti Gustafson is Michael, Bridget and Ian's mom and has been fortunate to be married to Al for 30 years. She's been grateful to live most of her life in Naperville surrounded by her family and life-long friends. Her role at the Swifty Foundation is Chief Operating Officer.... which sounds impressive but really means she pitches in where she is needed!

Michael Gustafson created the Swifty Foundation before his death at age 15 to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer research so that: “No other child will have to go through what I did.”
