Meet Lee Johnson, a dear friend and mentor of Mikey’s twin, Bridget, through their work together in Herbicide Free Campus. In addition to being a loving father and great musician, Lee previously was a groundskeeper for the Benicia School District in California before a non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis led him to file a lawsuit against Monsanto, the chemical company who produce the herbicide Roundup. He was initially awarded almost $290 million after the jury found his cancer was caused by his exposure to the herbicide.
After Lee’s groundbreaking case and several other individual trials, Monsanto is paying $10.9 billion to settle more than 100,000 claims linking their herbicide, RoundUp, to cancer diagnoses. A 12 year-old child is among one of the hundreds of thousands of plaintiffs claiming that exposure to Monsanto’s herbicide caused his cancer.
Let it be known that this chemical is still on the shelves of your local Lowe’s and Home Depot stores. This chemical is still being used by home gardeners, farmers, and landscapers alike, despite the billions of dollars Monsanto has paid in court. For the safety of yourself, your children, your neighbors, and anyone who might be near your lawn/garden, please choose one of the many alternatives to this toxic herbicide to care for your lawn. It is a simple choice.
